The British Contact Lens Association are looking for committed and passionate members to put themselves forward to represent their peers on our council.
BCLA Council represent the Association’s members who are from a multi-disciplinary profession and industry covering all sectors relating to contact lenses and anterior eye health.
Your time on council will be interesting, challenging and fluid. You will play an integral part in deciding and delivering the strategic direction of the BCLA, whilst representing members' wishes and help to ensure that all members’ views across the association, profession and industry are represented in all activities.
All council members are expected to provide top level leadership for the organisation, promote and actively encourage membership of the BCLA, attend council meetings, CPD events and our highly regarded conferences.
BCLA Council members will find the experience rewarding with an opportunity to develop new skills, network and to help bring about positive changes to the future of the world of contact lenses and anterior eye.

Nominations now open
BCLA are pleased to welcome nominations from:
- Optometrists (including those that have recently qualified)
- Contact Lens Opticians
- Ophthalmologists
- Technical area of the profession/industry
- Industry
In addition to the professional qualifications; any candidate appointed to council shall be able to demonstrate experience in at least one of the following;
- Digital Marketing & Communication
- Finance
- Commercial experience within the Industry
- Policy/Governance & membership organisations
- Legal
- Working knowledge of Clinical expertise in the field of Contact Lenses and Anterior Eye
- Working knowledge of all or one of the following; UK Universities, UK multiples, GOC & GMC Education requirements
- Research background
How to nominate or apply
- Only full UK based members of the BCLA are eligible to apply and be nominated for election.
- Before you complete the nomination form, find out more about the role of a council member by reading the job description here.
- To apply for a position on BCLA Council you must be nominated and seconded by those who are full BCLA members.
- You will need to prepare a 250-word supporting document as to why you wish to be considered for council and incorporate all relevant information.
- No previous experience is required.

The closing date for receipt of completed nominations is 17:00 on Friday 26 April. You may only stand for one position.
